Whitesands Bay is a Blue Flag award winning beach situated on the St. David’s Peninsula of Pembrokeshire, West Wales. A wide sandy beach popular with tourists and described as one of the best surfing beaches in Pembrokeshire. The golden sands and crystal clear water provide the ideal ingredients for a traditional family seaside holiday - long sunny days spent of the beach with the children splashing about in the water, building sandcastles and collecting shells.

For surfers, Whitesands is probably the best beach in Pembrokeshire. If you’re new to surfing, then Pembrokeshire has ample surf schools – TYF Adventure has been teaching surfing at Whitesands beach for three decades and caters for all levels of ability – they even offer taster sessions which are ideal if you are interested in trying surfing for the very first time.

To the north-east of the bay is a large rocky outcrop known as Carn Llidi and with the Pembrokeshire Coast Path passing alongside the bay, the area is a walkers paradise, with secluded bays to be discovered which are only accessibly by foot and some of the best views in the world. Walking holidays in Pembrokeshire don’t get much better than this.

This beautiful area of Pembrokeshire is also steeped in history, with a number of megalithic burial chambers, stone hut circles and Iron Age field systems. The site of a Celtic chapel, dedicated to St Patrick, can be found near the car park to the east of the bay, and of course the area is symbolic to our very own St David. When the tide is very low, it is sometimes possible to see the remains of an ancient forest on the beach.

In the summer, boat trips to Ramsey Island run from Whitesands beach and provide an excellent opportunity to discover the wildlife in this area, offering the chance to see dolphins and seals too. regular boat tours

August sees the annual Sand Church building competition when competitors from all over the UK build churches out of sand.

For dog walkers, you can take your dog on Whitesands beach between 1st October and 30th April, but restrictions do apply in the summer months. A 10 minute walk along the coast path takes you to secluded Porthmelgan beach which is dog friendly all year.
