You can reach the beach through the Celtic trail, follow these directions for a route along the coast. Newgale is an ever popular beach for a walk in the evening or on a Sunday afternoon, there are three car parks available which are often also populated by a striking variety of surfers’ campers. Toilets are available in three places along the beach near the car park. There is a pub and surf shop at one end and a beachside shop at the other. Newsurf stocks a wide range of clothes, groceries and ice cream. They also offer kayak and surf equipment hire and will update you on the surf report. You can also book in for some surf tuition. Just up from the beach towards the houses there is a cafe so you can grab a coffee and a cake if you need a moment to shelter from the wind.
Dogs are allowed on this two mile stretch of sand out of the summer season but otherwise the beach’s reputation as a popular family and surfing beach means that it does get busy during the summer holidays. At low tide you can walk along the beach towards neighbouring Pen Y Cwm. This is a perfect spot for rock pooling with the children whilst on your summer holidays. Look out for some spectacular shells and crabs crawling about on and under the sand.
